A Call for Help
At 2 a.m., a 13-year-old boy in South Carolina dialed 911—not for crime or danger,
but because he was tired of sleeping on a deflated air mattress in an empty room.
His grandmother loved him but could only provide the basics.
Officer Acerra’s Response
When Officer Gaetano Acerra arrived, he found bare walls and a weary child.
Instead of filing a report, he chose compassion.
“Sometimes you just know what’s right,” he said.
A Truck Full of Kindness
Three days later, Acerra returned with a truckload of furniture: a bed with fresh sheets, a desk and chair, lamps, decorations, and even a Nintendo Wii.
The boy’s sadness turned into joy. “Every kid needs something to look forward to,” Acerra explained.
More Than Furniture
Acerra’s gesture gave the boy dignity, stability, and hope. His act of kindness touched hearts nationwide, reminding people that small actions can create lasting change.
