Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was rushed to a hospital in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday after experiencing an allergic reaction, according to an agency spokesperson.
“Secretary Noem had an allergic reaction today,” DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement to The Independent.
“She was transported to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. She is alert and recovering,” she added.
Kristi Noem has been conscious and communicating with her security team, according to CNN sources.
CNN reported seeing multiple Secret Service agents stationed at various entrances outside the emergency room where Secretary Noem was admitted.
After his election, Donald Trump appointed the former South Dakota governor as Homeland Security Secretary. She now leads the agency’s immigration crackdown and oversees emergency response efforts, which she has pledged to overhaul.
