Zohran Mamdani Faces Threats After Historic NYC Mayoral Win
Just days after becoming New York City’s first Muslim, South Asian, African-born, and Millennial mayor-elect,
Zohran Mamdani faces an unprecedented challenge — President Donald Trump has publicly threatened to strip him of his U.S. citizenship.
A Historic Win and Bold Promises
Mamdani, 34, won the November 4, 2025 election with a progressive platform focused on affordability, free public buses, and rent freezes.
“New York, tonight you have delivered a mandate for change,” he told supporters.
Political Backlash and Threats
Trump called Mamdani a “self-proclaimed New York City Communist” and suggested he “won’t be getting any” federal funding.
Congressman Andy Ogles later demanded an investigation to revoke Mamdani’s citizenship, alleging — without evidence — that he lied during naturalization.
Standing Firm
Mamdani rejected the attacks, writing, “The President of the United States just threatened to have me arrested… not because I have broken any law.”
As he prepares to take office, Mamdani vows, “To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.”
