Zohran Mamdani faces an unprecedented challenge โ President Donald Trump has publicly threatened to strip him of his U.S. citizenship.
A Historic Win and Bold Promises
Mamdani, 34, won the November 4, 2025 election with a progressive platform focused on affordability, free public buses, and rent freezes.
โNew York, tonight you have delivered a mandate for change,โ he told supporters.
Political Backlash and Threats
Trump called Mamdani a โself-proclaimed New York City Communistโ and suggested he โwonโt be getting anyโ federal funding.
Congressman Andy Ogles later demanded an investigation to revoke Mamdaniโs citizenship, alleging โ without evidence โ that he lied during naturalization.
Standing Firm
Mamdani rejected the attacks, writing, โThe President of the United States just threatened to have me arrestedโฆ not because I have broken any law.โ
As he prepares to take office, Mamdani vows, โTo get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.โ
