Zohran Mamdani Faces Threats After Historic NYC Mayoral Win

Just days after becoming New York Cityโ€™s first Muslim, South Asian, African-born, and Millennial mayor-elect,

Zohran Mamdani faces an unprecedented challenge โ€” President Donald Trump has publicly threatened to strip him of his U.S. citizenship.

A Historic Win and Bold Promises

Mamdani, 34, won the November 4, 2025 election with a progressive platform focused on affordability, free public buses, and rent freezes.

โ€œNew York, tonight you have delivered a mandate for change,โ€ he told supporters.

Political Backlash and Threats

Trump called Mamdani a โ€œself-proclaimed New York City Communistโ€ and suggested he โ€œwonโ€™t be getting anyโ€ federal funding.

Congressman Andy Ogles later demanded an investigation to revoke Mamdaniโ€™s citizenship, alleging โ€” without evidence โ€” that he lied during naturalization.

Standing Firm

Mamdani rejected the attacks, writing, โ€œThe President of the United States just threatened to have me arrestedโ€ฆ not because I have broken any law.โ€

As he prepares to take office, Mamdani vows, โ€œTo get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.โ€
