Former President Donald Trump is earning rare praise from Democrats after helping negotiate a
peace deal between Israel and Hamas, ending nearly two years of deadly conflict.
With help from Qatar and regional partners, the agreement halted fighting and secured the
release of all 20 remaining Israeli hostages along with more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners.
Bill Clinton said Trump and his team โdeserve great creditโ for sticking with the negotiations and urged leaders to build on this โfragile moment.โ
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called the release of hostages โa wonderful dayโ and thanked the administration for its efforts.
Trump called the ceasefire a turning point and encouraged Israel to move toward diplomacy.
Other Democratic figures welcomed the end of violence and increased humanitarian aid, even if they didnโt directly praise Trump.
Asked about the future, Trump said the ceasefireโs durability is uncertain but promised to keep supporting peace efforts.
