The Quiet Takeover:

Crime Falls, Immigration Arrests Surge After Federal Takeover in D.C.m

Washington, D.C. has seenย crime drop but immigration arrests soarย afterย President Trumpโ€™s administration took controlย of local law enforcement onย August 12, 2025.

Federal agents and National Guard troops were deployed following what officials called a โ€œcollapse in public safety.โ€

According toย MPD data, property crime fell byย 19%ย and violent crime byย 17%, whileย robberies and vehicle break-insย declined more thanย 40%.

However,ย assaults with weaponsย roseย 14%, andย burglariesย increasedย 6%.

The biggest change came inย immigration enforcement:ย about 300 undocumented individualsย were detained in a week โ€”ย ten times the usual rate.

Federal agents are nowย accompanying D.C. policeย on patrols.

White House spokespersonย Abigail Jacksonย said,

โ€œThese results are life-changing for the families who are no longer facing violence, theft, or worse.โ€

Mayorย Muriel Bowserย condemned the move as anย attack on D.C.โ€™s sanctuary policies, while legal battles continue over the presidentโ€™s authority to override local control.
