Prince Harry’s appearance on Stephen Colbert’s show turned from lighthearted Hallmark spoof to pointed political theater in a single line.
Playing along with Colbert’s joke about America being “obsessed with royalty,” Harry coolly replied, “Really? I heard you elected a king.”
The audience’s immediate boos revealed how raw the Trump question remains,
and how dangerous it is for a royal exile to wade into U.S. politics so directly.
That quip landed on top of months of simmering tension.
Trump has openly said he “wouldn’t protect” Harry if he returns to the White House and
hinted the prince could be deported if he lied about past drug use on his visa.
Harry, already estranged from his own family, now appears willing to risk a public feud with a former – and possibly future – president.
Whether bravely honest or recklessly provocative, his joke made one thing clear: he’s not backing down.
