GOP Push to Remove Omar
Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) announced plans to introduce a resolution Monday to remove Rep.
Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from the House Budget Committee and the Education and Workforce Committee, citing her remarks after Charlie Kirkโs assassination.
Omarโs Comments
In an interview with progressive outlet Zeteo, Omar criticized Kirkโs past commentary, saying he had โdownplayed slaveryโ
and argued โJuneteenth shouldnโt exist.โ She added: โThere is nothing more effed upโฆ than to completely pretend thatโฆ
his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade.โ
Pushback and Clarification
Republicans accused her of disparaging Kirk. Omar countered that her
comments were taken out of context, stressing she found his death โmortifying.โ
Carterโs Response
Carter told Fox News Digital: โDisparaging Charlie Kirkโs legacy, a God-fearing, honorable manโฆ
is disgusting.โ He added, โCommittees are for serious lawmakers, not hate-spewing politicians.โ
