GOP Push to Remove Omar
Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) announced plans to introduce a resolution Monday to remove Rep.
Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from the House Budget Committee and the Education and Workforce Committee, citing her remarks after Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
Omar’s Comments
In an interview with progressive outlet Zeteo, Omar criticized Kirk’s past commentary, saying he had “downplayed slavery”
and argued “Juneteenth shouldn’t exist.” She added: “There is nothing more effed up… than to completely pretend that…
his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence for the last decade.”
Pushback and Clarification
Republicans accused her of disparaging Kirk. Omar countered that her
comments were taken out of context, stressing she found his death “mortifying.”
Carter’s Response
Carter told Fox News Digital: “Disparaging Charlie Kirk’s legacy, a God-fearing, honorable man…
is disgusting.” He added, “Committees are for serious lawmakers, not hate-spewing politicians.”
