Celebrating the Navy
First Lady Melania Trump drew attention at the U.S. Navy’s 250th Anniversary in Norfolk,
Virginia, on October 5. About 10,000 sailors attended, while President Trump praised the military, saying,
“Despite the current Democrat-induced shutdown, we’ll make sure our service members get every last penny.”
Melania’s Greeting
Melania opened her speech with “Hooyah, Navy!” prompting an enthusiastic response from the sailors.
Clips went viral, with social media users joking, “I did NOT have Melania yelling ‘Hooyah’ on my 2025 bingo card — but I’m here for it!”
Meaning of ‘Hooyah’
Military Times explains “Hooyah” is the Navy’s battle cry, used for motivation and unity, especially in SEAL training.
The Cambridge Dictionary defines it as “an expression of approval, agreement, or encouragement.”
A Salute to Service
Melania continued, “Generations of sailors have kept America free through their courage and service.
Your strength, bravery, and sacrifice inspire us all.” Her shout symbolized respect, determination, and the Navy’s fighting spirit.
