Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump had an awkward moment at
the United Nations headquarters when the escalator they were on suddenly stopped working.
Even though it was a small thing, it quickly became a hot topic in the news and a
source of jokes for late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, who has had a long-running feud with the former president.
Kimmel and Trump have been at odds ever since ABC briefly
suspended Kimmel for comments he made about Trump and
political commentator Charlie Kirk. Trump publicly praised the suspension, but Kimmel quickly returned to the air, using his platform to talk about the controversy and make fun of the former president.
Kimmel made fun of Trump’s attempt to “cancel” him in his first monologue after the break, saying that it only brought more people to the show.
He was upset with a national leader who, according to Kimmel, is happy when Americans lose their jobs over jokes.
He then called Trump a “bully” for continuing to criticize him in public.
Kimmel had another chance to make fun of Trump when the escalator broke down at the UN.
Reports say that Melania led the way as they got on the escalator,
which suddenly stopped, forcing them and their team to use the stairs instead.
Later, Trump said that the situation could have been dangerous if they hadn’t held onto the handrail.
Trump said that the escalator stop might have been on purpose and pointed to a news story that said UN workers had joked about such a prank. He said that those who were supposedly responsible should be held accountable and called it sabotage.
