Oral myiasis is an uncommon disorder that has been linked to a variety of medical conditions, including: poor oral hygiene; alcoholism; senility; suppurative lesions; severe halitosis; and dementia. Although ivermectin, a semisynthetic macrolide antibiotic, is sometimes used as a systemic therapy for oral myiasis, the standard treatment is manual removal of the worms one by one.
