La Salle University Honors Joe “Jellybean” Bryant
La Salle University is mourning the loss of basketball legend Joe “Jellybean” Bryant,
remembered not only for his talent but for his mentorship and humility.
Coaches, players, and fans praised him as a man who “will be dearly missed,” the university said in a statement.
As a standout at La Salle, Bryant averaged 20.8 points per game,
leading him to a successful NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers and other teams.
His charisma and connection with fans made him a Philadelphia favorite.
After retiring, Bryant turned to coaching, sharing his wisdom with young players — including his son,
Kobe Bryant, who became one of the greatest in NBA history.
Kobe once said, “He taught me how to prepare, how to see the floor, and how to execute.”
