For many pet owners, the arrival of a new family member brings both excitement and concern. Will the cat or dog adjust? Will they accept the baby? Ariella Spinas of California had those very questions in mind when she brought her baby home from the hospital for the first time.

Tow, a black and white cat, has been with Ariella since she was 21 years old. Over the course of seven years, this pet spent all the big moments of her life with her – from meeting her future husband, adopting another cat and dog, all the way to pregnancy. To Ariella, Tou was not just a pet, but a real family member.

But with the arrival of the baby, the cat had to learn to share the attention he had until then only for himself.
