Overview
A mass shooting struck Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday evening,
making it one of Australia’s deadliest attacks in decades.
The violence began around 6:45 p.m. during a Hanukkah event called
“Chanukah by the Sea,” attended by families and community members.
Police Response
New South Wales Police quickly locked down the area, creating a large exclusion zone.
Officers confronted two suspects during the response.
One alleged shooter was killed at the scene,
while another was shot by police and taken into custody.
Authorities said there is “no ongoing threat to the public.”
Casualties
Officials confirmed at least twelve deaths, including one attacker, and nearly thirty injuries.
Two police officers were among the wounded.
Victims were taken to multiple hospitals, with some in serious but stable condition.
Aftermath
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the incident as a “shocking act of violence.”
Investigators are treating it as a potential terrorist attack,
renewing national debate over extremism and public safety.
