A terrorist attack at Bondi Beach, Australia, left twelve people dead, including the suspected gunman,
and at least twelve others injured, along with two police officers, authorities said.
The shooting shocked the nation due to the beach’s popularity and Australia’s strict gun laws.
Emergency services responded after calls at 6:45 pm, transporting 18 victims to hospitals and treating others at the scene.
Police quickly secured the area, later arresting two suspects and investigating suspicious items nearby.
Officials confirmed there were no related incidents elsewhere in Sydney.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the attack “shocking and deeply distressing,”
emphasizing that first responders were focused on saving lives.
Independent MP Allegra Spender described the incident as “horrifying.”
The shooting occurred during a Hanukkah gathering and is being treated as terrorism,
making it the deadliest mass shooting in Australia since 1996.
