Tragic Plane Crash in India
A plane carrying 242 people crashed shortly after takeoff in Ahmedabad, India. Air India Flight AI171, bound for London Gatwick, slammed into a medical college dormitory in the Meghani Nagar neighborhood. Authorities confirmed, “The building on which it has crashed is a doctors’ hostel.” Among the passengers were 217 adults and 11 children.
High Death Toll and Rescue Efforts
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but the situation is grim. The Ahmedabad police commissioner said there “seems to be no survivors” from the crash. Over 100 bodies, many badly burned, have been taken to the local hospital for autopsy. This incident is considered one of India’s worst aviation disasters.
Aftermath and Flight Disruptions
The crash caused a fire, sending thick smoke into the sky. Photos showed debris scattered around the building, with the plane’s tail stuck on top. As a result, “all flights have been temporarily halted” at Ahmedabad Airport. Passengers are urged to check with airlines for updates. Videos circulating show the plane rapidly descending before the explosion.
Ongoing Investigation and Condolences
Officials are working hard to find the cause of the crash, but details remain unclear. In a statement, condolences were expressed: “Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this devastating tragedy. We send our deepest prayers for strength, healing, and comfort during this incredibly difficult time.”
