The US has redirected the USS Nimitz to the Middle East due to “an emergent operational requirement,” as tensions grow between Iran and Israel. Originally headed to Vietnam, the Nimitz changed course on Monday.
The move follows ongoing missile exchanges between Israel and Iran, now in their fourth day. “America’s commitment to maintaining multiple aircraft carriers in the region” highlights the seriousness of the situation.
The US has also deployed refueling aircraft to Europe to give President Trump more options for aerial operations, officials told Reuters.
