A shocking series of attacks has shaken Minnesota after State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband,Mark, were fatally shot at their home early Saturday. Authorities suspect the killings were politically motivated.

Earlier that morning, State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also attacked and critically injured

but survived following emergency surgeries. Both lawmakers belong to the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer-Labor Party.

The shootings began around 2 a.m. with a 911 call from Hoffman’s home. Police later conducted a welfare check at Hortman’s

residence, where a man impersonating an officer opened fire on officers before fleeing. A multi-agency manhunt

is underway.Authorities warn residents to verify any police visits by calling 911. The FBI is fully involved in the investigation.

Melissa Hortman was a dedicated public servant, Speaker of the Minnesota House, and active community volunteer.

Her husband was a respected technology professional. Their deaths have prompted national condemnation,

including from former President Joe Biden, who called for unity against political violence.
