A Sudden Shift

Mia never expected her husband Ben’s idea to homeschool their daughter Lily would upend their family. Mia was surprised. Just weeks before, Ben supported strict private schools. Mia, working full-time, allowed Ben to take charge of Lily’s education.

Ben built a curriculum, crafted a schedule, and told Mia, “She’s thriving, Mia. You should see how she lights up.” But Mia’s doubts grew. Confronted, Ben confessed: “I lost my job, Mia. Months ago.” Unable to pay for school, he invented the homeschooling idea and took delivery work to make ends meet. “I didn’t want you to think I was a failure.”

Mia was shaken, but remembered her own job loss and how Ben once supported her without judgment. “You should have told me,” she said. “We’re a team.”
