After returning from a week-long business trip, Sarah was horrified to find her young sons, Tommy and Alex, sleeping on the cold hallway floor, dirty and disheveled. The house was a mess, and her husband Mark was nowhere to be found. Her confusion turned to anger when she discovered him in the boys’ room, which had been transformed into a gaming cave, completely engrossed in a video game while ignoring their children’s needs.
Mark casually dismissed Sarah’s concern, calling the hallway sleepover an “adventure” and brushing off his parenting neglect. Furious, Sarah realized she couldn’t trust him to act like an adult and decided to take action. The next morning, she treated him exactly like a child—serving him Mickey Mouse pancakes, enforcing screen time limits, and creating a chore chart with gold stars for good behavior.
Throughout the week, she stuck to her plan, giving him “timeouts,” reading him bedtime stories, and cutting his sandwiches into dinosaur shapes. Mark grew increasingly frustrated and embarrassed but resisted acknowledging the seriousness of his neglect. His breaking point came when he was once again sent to the timeout corner for complaining about screen limits.
