My sister found this on the floor of her store and brought it home.

She dropped it into my hand with a grin, expecting a quick answer. Instead, the room went quiet. Its pale, jagged edges looked eerily like teeth fused together, but the small metal piece on one side ruined any simple explanation. It felt wrong to touch, like something that shouldn’t be separated from whatever it once belonged to. We turned it over and over, each new angle raising more questions than answers, until the curiosity tipped into unease.

We imagined everything: a fragment of a jaw, a piece of a tiny spine, even some kind of medical implant. Only after scouring photos online did the truth finally click into place. It wasn’t a bone at all, but an old orthodontic component from dental braces. The horror shifted instantly into laughter and relief. That unsettling little “bone” on the store floor had just been someone’s forgotten smile.
