Jets Legend Nick Mangold Dies at 41
Former New York Jets star Nick Mangold has died at 41 due to
complications from kidney disease, the team announced Sunday.
Mangold, who played his entire career with the Jets from 2006 to 2016, was a seven-time All-Pro and one of the most respected centers in the NFL.
“Nick was more than a legendary center,” said team owner Woody Johnson.
“He was the heartbeat of our offensive line for a decade and a beloved teammate whose leadership and toughness defined an era of Jets football.”
Earlier this month, Mangold revealed he needed a kidney transplant, writing,
“I am in need of a kidney donor with type O blood.”
Despite his health struggles, he remained optimistic, saying, “I’m staying positive and focused on the path ahead.”
A Jets Ring of Honor member since 2022, Mangold said,
“Being able to play for only one team is something really special to me.” Johnson added, “Nick Mangold will forever be a Jet.”
