Estonia Invokes NATO Article 4 After Russian Jet Incursion

Global tensions rose after Estonia accused Russia of violating NATO

airspace in one of the most serious incidents since the Ukraine war began.

According to officials, three Russian MiG-31 fighters entered Estonia without clearance,

stayed for nearly 12 minutes, and ignored all radio contact.

“This was no navigational error,” said retired NATO commander Col. James Whitaker.

“The message is clear: Russia wants to remind NATO it can poke at its borders at will.”

Estonia’s defense minister, Hanno Pevkur, announced the government has triggered

NATO’s Article 4 consultations, stressing the incursion was “unprecedentedly brazen.”

Article 4 allows allies to meet when a member feels its security is under threat.

President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Moscow, telling reporters:

“It could be big trouble, but I’ll let you know later.”

NATO leaders will meet in Brussels next week to discuss possible responses, from increased Baltic air patrols to new sanctions.

Analysts warn the risk of escalation is real. “One miscalculation could spiral into war,” said Dr. Elena Kovacs of the European Security Institute.
