AOC Sparks Outcry Over Kirk Tribute Vote
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) denounced slain conservative activist
Charlie Kirk during House debate on a resolution to honor him.
She accused Kirk of racism and anti-Semitism, declaring:
“His rhetoric and beliefs were ignorant, uneducated, and
sought to disenfranchise millions of Americans.”
Ocasio-Cortez likened the resolution to endorsing “segregation, Jim Crow, and
the legacy of bigotry.” She cited past remarks by Kirk on the Civil Rights Act,
Paul Pelosi’s attacker, and Jews controlling “colleges… movies, and Hollywood.”
The memorial vote highlighted sharp divisions.
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi and 95 other Democrats declined to support the resolution,
while the Senate unanimously approved Oct. 14 as a
“National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk.” Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) praised Kirk as “a devout husband, father, and friend.”
Meanwhile, suspect Tyler Robinson, 22, faces capital charges in Kirk’s killing. Prosecutors say Robinson admitted targeting Kirk because “the guy spreads too much hate.”
