Democratic Donor Pleads Guilty to Major Fraud
Prominent Democratic donor Joseph Sanberg has agreed to plead guilty to two counts of wire fraud after
federal investigators uncovered a $248 million scheme.
Sanberg, co-founder of the fintech company Aspiration, misled investors and lenders about the company’s finances while hiding major liabilities.
“Joseph Sanberg abused his authority and used lies to enrich himself at the expense of others,
” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti.
Though Aspiration promoted itself as socially responsible, Sanberg’s actions allegedly contradicted that mission.
He has also donated significantly to Democratic campaigns, including California Governor Gavin Newsom.
L.A. Councilman Faces New Corruption Charges
Los Angeles City Councilmember Curren Price now faces two more felony charges, adding to the ten already filed against him.
The accusations include embezzlement, perjury, and conflict of interest.
Price allegedly voted on city contracts while his wife’s firm received over $800,000 from agencies benefiting from those decisions.
“This is not how public service is supposed to work,” said L.A. District Attorney Nathan Hochman.
