Teen’s Final Text Before Tragic Death:
“If I Die, It Was Greg”
Kylee Monteiro, 18 and 11 weeks pregnant, was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, 22-year-old Gregory Groom, who then buried her in his grandparents’ backyard in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.
On August 7, Kylee sent a chilling final message to her sister, Faith:
“He threw me on the ground, and pulled my hair and strangled me… My phone’s at 4 percent. If I die, it was Greg,” she wrote, according to the New York Post.
Sudden Disappearance Sparks Alarm
The next day, Groom reported Kylee missing to police, claiming she left after an argument.
But concern grew when Kylee, known for her social media presence, went silent.
“She was so loving and so caring, and I love her so much,” said family friend Kira Schofield.
Kylee had recently announced her pregnancy online and called Groom a man who treated her like “gold,” according to CBS News.
Despite earlier denying abuse, her sister later said: “I lost my sister, and I will never see her again or… tell her that I love her.”
Groom Allegedly Confesses
After police informed Groom they would search the property, he allegedly confessed. Prosecutor Jason Mohan said Groom admitted to stabbing Kylee multiple times during a fight and burying her body five feet underground. He even provided a “rudimentary map” to the grave site.
Despite the confession, Groom pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
Grief and Remembrance
Kylee had just graduated high school and dreamed of becoming a mother. Her sister described her as “such an outgoing person… She loved people. She really was just such a happy person.”
A vigil in Kylee’s memory will be held Saturday, August 23, at Redway Plain in Rehoboth.
