Comer Issues Subpoenas to the Clintons and Trump-Era DOJ Officials in Epstein Investigation by House Oversight Committee

House Oversight Subcommittee Votes to Issue Subpoenas

A subcommittee of the House Oversight Committee voted to subpoena all individuals involved in the Jeffrey Epstein case, along with the Department of Justice (DOJ). This decision follows two previous votes by the same subcommittee last month to subpoena the DOJ and the individuals.

Full Committee Moves on Ghislaine Maxwell

Earlier, Chairman James Comer’s full committee authorized subpoenas for Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s close associate. Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence for her role in a scheme that exploited and abused minor girls alongside Epstein for over a decade, according to a press release from the Southern District of New York.

Maxwell’s Deposition Delayed

Comer agreed to delay Maxwell’s deposition until the Supreme Court reviews her appeal seeking to overturn her conviction. This postponement was reported by Fox News.

DOJ Records Deadline Set

The committee set an August 19 deadline for the DOJ to submit all records related to Epstein’s case. A DOJ representative confirmed receipt of the subpoena but declined further comment.

High-Profile Witnesses Scheduled to Testify

Letters have been sent requiring Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton to appear on October 9 and 14, respectively. Former Attorneys General William Barr and Jeff Sessions, who served under President Trump, are summoned for August 18 and 28. Former Obama-era Attorneys General Loretta Lynch and Eric Holder must testify on September 19 and 30.

The committee plans to depose former Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland on October 2. Robert Mueller and James Comey are scheduled for September 2 and October 7. Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who served under George W. Bush, is set to testify on August 26.

Epstein’s Death and GOP Divisions

Epstein died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Despite this, the current administration’s handling of the case has divided the GOP.

The rift stems from a DOJ memo issued in July, which stated: “This systematic review revealed no incriminating ‘client list.’ Furthermore, no credible evidence was found indicating that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals… We did not discover any evidence that could justify an investigation against uncharged third parties.”

Conservative Criticism of DOJ

Conservative figures such as Steve Bannon and Laura Loomer have accused the DOJ of mishandling a case that many Trump supporters view as a priority.

Trump Backs Bondi to Investigate

To address these conflicts, President Donald Trump endorsed Attorney General Pam Bondi. He urged her to provide any “credible” information related to Epstein. Bondi responded by sending Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to meet Maxwell and her legal team at the Florida prison where Maxwell was held.

The DOJ has also pushed for the release of grand jury testimony from the Epstein and Maxwell cases.

Bill Clinton’s Connections to Epstein

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that former President Bill Clinton was among those who sent birthday greetings to Epstein for his 50th birthday in 2003. Clinton’s name has appeared repeatedly in relation to Epstein, who died in prison six years ago.

Publicly available documents and testimony have listed Clinton among several high-profile individuals connected to Epstein. Flight logs reveal Clinton took four trips aboard Epstein’s private jet between 2002 and 2003. According to Clinton’s spokesman Angel Urena, these trips—to Europe, Asia, and Africa—included stops related to Clinton Foundation work.

Birthday Letter in Clinton’s Handwriting

According to the Journal, Clinton’s birthday message to Epstein was written in his “distinctive scrawl.” The letter reportedly read: “It’s reassuring, isn’t it, to have endured for so long, throughout all the years of learning and understanding, adventures and [illegible], and also to maintain your childlike curiosity, the ambition to effect change, and the comfort of friends.”

Testimony From Epstein Victim

In a May 2016 deposition, Johanna Sjoberg, who claims to have been part of Epstein’s circle from 2001 to 2006, was questioned about Clinton. Sjoberg testified, according to Newsweek, that Epstein once said, “Clinton prefers them young,” referring to girls.
