Joe Biden Claims World Leaders Still Seek His Advice
Critics Question the Relevance of His Behind-the-Scenes Influence
Surprise Revelation at HR Convention
Biden made the claim during a recent appearance at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) convention in San Diego. Speaking with SHRM President Johnny Taylor, he said:
โIโm getting callsโฆ from a number of European leaders asking me to get engaged. Iโm not [getting involved], but Iโm giving advice. Because things are different.โ
A clip of the exchange, shared on X by Democratic strategist Chris Jackson, shows Biden speaking in a subdued, occasionally halting toneโshifting from soft-spoken to impassioned mid-sentence.
โWho Can Lead the World?โ
Biden used the moment to reflect on Americaโs global role.
โI often ask the question rhetorically: if America doesnโt lead the world, who can?โ he said, his voice rising. โNot a joke. Not because of power. Who can put it together?โ
He also claimed lawmakers on both sides of the aisle continue to consult him.
โIโm dealing with a lot of Democrats and Republican colleaguesโฆ all of them wanting to talk,โ Biden added. โNot because they think I have the answer, just to bounce things off me.โ
However, his remarks took an odd turn when he added:
โIโm also laying rubber with my โ67 Corvette on my driveway.โ
Critics Fire Back
The Corvette comment sparked confusionโand gave critics fresh ammunition. Many saw it as emblematic of what they describe as Bidenโs disconnected and erratic leadership style.
Despite stepping down amid growing criticism and internal party pressure, former President Joe Biden insists heโs not out of the game entirely. According to Biden, global leadersโincluding European heads of stateโcontinue to call him for guidance.
