A Georgia grandmother and retired Army veteran is being praised nationwide after bravely stepping in to stop a passenger from storming the cockpit on a Delta flight. Nicole Pruitt, a 26-year military veteran, proved she was still ready for battle—even at 35,000 feet.
The midair drama unfolded on July 16 aboard a Delta flight from Atlanta, Georgia, to Tucson, Arizona. Pruitt was traveling to meet her newborn grandson when chaos erupted just 20 minutes into the trip.
According to reports, a female passenger suddenly attempted to breach the cockpit and exit the plane, claiming she had received a message from a higher power. “She didn’t want to be on the plane anymore,” Pruitt told WSAZ 3. “She said God told her to do it. She had a calling.”
That’s when Pruitt’s instincts kicked in.
“Nobody else was doing nothing, so I just knew I had to do something,” she told 13 News. Refusing to stand by, the Army vet jumped into action, helping restrain the passenger until the crew could take full control.
Video footage from the scene—later uploaded to TikTok by Pruitt’s son, Tyrique Perry—shows the unruly flyer lying face down on the floor of the plane with her hands bound behind her back. Pruitt can be seen standing nearby, calmly returning to her seat and stating, “I will whoop her a–.”
“I’m, like, ‘Wait a minute … Not today,’” she recalled of the moment she realized the thr**t.
The plane ultimately turned around due to the disruption, but Pruitt’s quick thinking ensured everyone on board remained safe. “I’ve got to make it home to my kids, my children, my grandchildren,” she said, reflecting on her decision to intervene.
Her son Perry wasn’t surprised by her actions. “Sometimes, it’s just a natural instinct and you’ve got to get it done,” he said. The TikTok clip has since gone viral, with commenters hailing Pruitt as a hero.
“This woman is a hero,” wrote one viewer. Another commented, “Thank you, Queen Nikki.” Admirers flooded social media, urging Delta to recognize Pruitt’s courageous act.
“Bless this woman and what she did for everyone on that flight!! Delta, step up and take care of her ForEva!!!!” one user exclaimed. Another added, “Delta needs to have this woman fly free for life! First class.”
As unruly passenger incidents continue to rise across the airline industry, Pruitt’s story is a reminder that heroes can come from unexpected places—even the economy section of a flight. Her bravery not only kept a crisis at bay but also inspired countless passengers and viewers across the country.
