The Magic of “Bewitched” and Tabitha’s Charm
The beloved TV show Bewitched (1964–1972) followed Samantha, a witch, and her efforts to live a normal life with her mortal husband, Darrin. Their daughter Tabitha, who inherited magical powers, quickly became a fan favorite—especially for her signature nose twitch.
Twins Diane and Erin Murphy shared the role of Tabitha early on. “They had previously shown it in black and white… they were going to focus more on the character of Tabitha,” Erin explained. Eventually, Erin took over the role as they grew less alike.
Behind the Scenes with Erin Murphy
Born June 17, 1964, in Encino, California, Erin said the set of Bewitched gave her “amazing and unusual experiences.” She stayed close to co-stars, especially Elizabeth Montgomery (Samantha), saying, “She would give me parenting advice, and I looked up to her as a parent.”
Erin also had a special bond with Agnes Moorehead (Endora): “I cherished her as if she were a grandparent… she would draw cartoons and tell me stories.”
Life After Tabitha
Though she left acting at 13, Erin returned to TV in hosting roles and briefly reprised Tabitha in 2017. Now a business owner, she runs Erin Murphy Knits and Slim Chillers. “I never really thought I would wind up in the alcohol business,” she said, “but I have enjoyed a few good martinis in my life.”
Legacy and Reflection
Erin, a mother of six boys, still cherishes fan support: “That people value what I did makes me happy. I think it’s fantastic.” She celebrated Bewitched‘s 60th anniversary in 2024, joking, “Want to feel old?… little Tabitha is sixty years old!”
Her twin Diane now works in medical writing and community advocacy in Santa Barbara.
