It was a warm afternoon, and a neighbor had invited me over for a casual barbecue. My husband was out of the country for work, so I figured it would be nice to get out and enjoy the day.
The backyard was lively, filled with laughter and the smell of grilled food. The garden was beautiful, with a large fountain at its center, so I decided to take a quick picture to send to my husbandโjust a small way to share the moment with him while he was away.
But his response came back almost immediately, and it wasnโt what I expected.
I received a cold message from my husband: โWhere are you?โ
โAt the barbecue, remember?โ I replied, confused.
He asked, โThatโs not our neighborhood. Thatโs his house, isnโt it?โ
I realized too late that the backyard in the photo was my ex-boyfriendโs house. My husband had visited it with me before, and the detailsโthe fountain, the gardenโwere too familiar.
โNo, itโs not what you think,โ I texted, but he didnโt believe me. His final message: โWhen I get back, we need to talk. I donโt think I can do this anymore.โ
