The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) also advises against charging phones under pillows or in tight spaces, where heat buildup can cause the device to overheat.

Jackie, now an advocate for safe phone use, urges parents to educate their children about the risks of charging phones while in use and to stick with manufacturer-approved chargers. Following the incident, T-Mobile replaced Gabbie’s phone and covered her medical expenses.
